Encouragement for the Family of God by Kenton Cheek

Reading From Revelation 19
Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,
“Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
the Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his Bride has made herself ready;
it was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure”—
for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
—Revelation 19:6-10
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb is the culmination of all of human history. It is the crowning moment of the redemption process for all of those who have been adopted as sons and daughters into the eternal family of God. At this consummation of all things, Heaven and Earth will be put under the loving, just, and holy rule of King Jesus. The adopted sons and daughters of the Most High God, all those who have chosen to believe, repent, confess and receive Him as Savior and Lord, will reign with Him forever. We know that the Bride of Christ is the Church universal from Ephesians 5 which is one of the most explanative passages about this deep teaching. The Apostle Paul wrote,
“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.”[1]
We reach this pinnacle of our relationship with the Father through the new birth, sanctification and participation in the Church as the Bride of Christ. Here on Earth we receive what Fanny Crosby described in her hymn, “Blessed Assurance” as foretastes of glory divine. But one day we will experience a fullness spiritual intimacy with God on a level not possible in our present reality because of the fallen nature of Creation. In the New Heaven and the New Earth, all sin and all of its corrosive effects will be removed and we will be restored in to uninhibited relationship with Him. It will be a New Eden.
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb is the ultimate fulfillment of the High Priestly Prayer of Jesus in John 17 which dives deeper into this mystery than Ephesians 5. He spoke with the Father saying, “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” The goal of our faith journey is complete unity with God.
This picture of oneness with God is why holy matrimony is so very sacred to followers of Jesus. The human covenant of marriage depicts the relationship between Christ and His Bride the Church. It also is meant to more fully reflect the divine nature of God in that He is Spirit, transcends gender, and has masculine and feminine qualities. When male and female come together in healthy, harmonious union, they more fully reflect the image of God together than apart. The two come together to become one. On an infinitely deeper level, Christ and His Church, the eternal family of God, will come together as one. This is why His Bride is also called His Body.
I believe that this is why Jesus said there will not be human marriage in Heaven as we know of it in our present reality. We will enjoy something better. The relationship we will have with one another in the Church and with Christ will be deeper and more satisfying than anything ever experienced in human history. There we will perfectly reflect His glory and function in His power and authority without any hindrance from sin. In His Presence there is fullness of joy; In Him our joy will be made complete.
“Heavenly Father, I look forward to the Second Coming of God the Son, the resurrection from the dead, the rapture of the saints, the final judgment and the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Help me to live in anticipation of that glorious Day. May Your will be done in my life, in my family, in my church, in this world as it is in Heaven. Empower me and fill me with Your love to be Your hands and feet upon the Earth as I share Your love and message. Make this world more like Heaven through the ministry You have through Your sons and daughters. Thank You for Your salvation, healing, power and hope through Jesus Christ. Amen.”
At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.
–Matthew 22:30
For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ.
