Our Family Table: The Eternal Gospel

Encouragement for the Family of God by Kenton Cheek

Reading From Revelation 14

“Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people. He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”—Revelation 14:6-7

Proverbs 9:10 tells us, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and present everywhere at once. His holiness commands our respect and reverence. To know Him is to love Him and if we truly love Him, we will follow Him, obeying Him out of gratitude for who He is and all He has done for us. In order to be saved, we must know God and He must know us. This is accomplished by having a healthy, growing, life-giving relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ’s atonement applied to our lives by the power of the Spirit.

The eternal gospel, the Good News of Jesus Christ, is so much more than forgiveness of sins, though for that I am humbly grateful for. The Gospel is about restoring me to the perfect relationship and existence enjoyed by Adam and Eve in the Garden before they sinned. The fullness of the Gospel is this great work of restoration through the redemption, healing, empowerment and hope that is experienced by grace through faith in Jesus alone. He is the same yesterday, today and forever and is able to make you and I every bit whole as we progress in our love and knowledge of Him who shed His blood to buy our pardon.

This eternal Good News is the most exclusive and inclusive message the world has ever known. It is open and available to whosoever will believe, repent, confess and receive Jesus as Savior and Lord. It matters not your background, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexuality, gender, or whatever barriers society might put in your way, the Holy Spirit is poured out on all flesh and each of us must come unto to Christ through the same spiritual pattern laid out in the Holy Scriptures. If you draw near to Jesus, He will draw near to you. He is standing at the door of your heart and knocking. Will you answer and invite Him in?

“Lord Jesus, I believe You are God and I confess that I am not. I confess that I am a sinner in need of Your grace and mercy. I ask You to forgive me of my sin. Wash me clean in Your blood. Fill me with Your Spirit and make me a new creation. I receive You as my Savior and Lord. I surrender my will to Yours. Have Your way in my life. Thank You for saving me. Make me more like You. In the Name of Jesus Christ I pray these things. Amen.”

And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.II Corinthians 3:18
