Reading From Revelation 4

“Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying:

“‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come.’”

Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:

‘You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
    and have their being.’”

—Revelation 4:8-11

Yahweh is the holy God.  By His very nature He is set apart from everyone and everything in all the universe.  There is no one else like Him, there is no one else beside Him.[1]  Matchless is His Name.  There is no one else in all of creation worthy of our worship because He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things.  Everything in the universe was created by Him and for Him and every created thing is lesser than He is.[2]  What a comfort it is to us to know that when Jesus returns, everything in Heaven and Earth will be made subject to Him.

In our present reality, “we know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.”[3]  But there is coming a day when the victory that was won in Gethsemane, Calvary and the Empty Tomb will extend throughout all of creation and Jesus will bring everything together under His authority.  “He made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.”[4]  We will see perfect justice finally done with the consummation of all things.

God is our life source.  In Him we live and move and have our being.[5]  Not only are we dependent upon Him physically, for the very breath in our lungs comes from Him,[6] but we are also dependent upon Him spiritually for new life in Christ Jesus.[7]  When God formed man from the dust of the earth, He breathed into His nostrils and Adam came alive.  Through sin, physical and spiritual death came into the world.  Now all those who are born of the water of their mother’s womb must also be reborn spiritually in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.[8]  As long as we the branches remain connected to the True Vine, we will live and grow and flourish and bear good spiritual fruit.[9]  In Jesus we are made alive, given strength to survive, and the nourishment needed to thrive.

“Lord God, You mean everything to me.  You are my life, my light, and the Rock of my salvation.  Whom shall I fear?  What can mere mortals do to me?  My life and my fate are sealed with You on high.  Your promises will never fail and Your goodness sustains my life.  Continue to reveal more of Your glorious character to my mind and heart.  Show me how to put Your Word into practice.  Thank You for the revelations given through Your servant John some two thousand years ago.  Even today Your Word is living and active.  Your Spirit quickens my body, soul and spirit as I read, study, meditate and apply Your principles and precepts in my life.  I give You all the praise, honor and glory for You alone are worthy of my worship.  In the matchless Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray these things.  Amen.”

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

—Matthew 24:14

See, I will create
new heavens and a new earth.
The former things will not be remembered,
nor will they come to mind.

But be glad and rejoice forever
    in what I will create,
for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight
    and its people a joy.
I will rejoice over Jerusalem
    and take delight in my people;
the sound of weeping and of crying
will be heard in it no more.
