Reading From Genesis 38-40

“But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.”

—Genesis 39:20-23

The Presence of the Lord made all the difference in the life of Joseph.  It makes all the difference in the life of every person who draws near to Him.  No matter what circumstances Joseph found himself in, God was there with him.  Joseph was faithful to the Lord and experienced His goodness again and again.

God is with you wherever you go, just as He was with Joseph.  If we are faithful to do what is right according to His Word the Bible, we will also be blessed.  Joseph was not perfect and neither are we.  Part of being faithful to God is knowing what to do when we do make mistakes.  We show that we genuinely trust Him by turning away from our sin, taking ownership of what we have done or failed to do, and thanking Him for His forgiveness.

The Lord does not bless us just for us to consumers of His goodness.  We are not to hoard the spiritual and temporal wealth that we have as a result of being His sons and daughters.  We are blessed so that we can bless others.  God blessed Joseph and put him in positions of responsibility which he used for the good of those around him.  Whatever authority, wealth, power, resources of any kind you have been entrusted with, use them for the good of others to the glory of God Almighty.

“Lord Jesus, change our way of thinking about stewardship.  Show us how we can better the world around us by sharing Your love and message.  Empower us with Your Holy Spirit to be Your hands and feet upon the Earth as You build and advance Your Kingdom of Light in us and through us.  In the Name of Jesus Christ I pray these things.  Amen.”

“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven? And if you are not faithful with other people’s things, why should you be trusted with things of your own?

“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.”

—Luke 16:10-13
