Reading From Genesis 16-18

“I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you.  I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.  The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.”—Genesis 17:6-8

When God makes a promise, He NEVER breaks His Word. His Word remains sealed in Heaven so that no matter if all the Bibles on Earth were destroyed, it would not change His promises. When covenants are broken, human beings are the ones doing the breaking; God remains faithful even when we are faithless.

While this promise to Abraham was fulfilled with literal nations and kings descended from him, it is more deeply and broadly fulfilled through Jesus Christ and His Kingdom. Billions of people have Abraham as their father because of their faith.

It is noteworthy that God promised the land to Abraham’s descendants. Remember, this is an everlasting covenant. Israel still has a special place in God’s heart and the soil is part of the promise.

“Lord God, I thank You for being faithful to Your Word. There is no shadow of turning with Thee. I bless Your Name. Amen.”

Jesus Christ: the same yesterday, and today, and forever.—Hebrews 13:8

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.Deuteronomy 7:9
