Reading From Job 40-42
“Then Job answered the Lord and said:
‘I know that you can do all things,
and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.’”
—Job 42:1-2
One must read Job with the discernment of the Holy Spirit. There are many things that Job and his friends say that are not sound doctrine, but Job gets it right with this one. In His infinite wisdom, God sovereignly gives mankind agency and free will and yet He is able to intervene and interweave the countless factors of human history together to accomplish His plan. He is truly magnificent! His ways are higher than our ways, His thoughts higher than our thoughts.[1]
When God spoke through the ancient prophets foretelling the coming of the Messiah, His power to orchestrate the chaos of life on Earth into divine order was on display. We have the benefit of looking back in time as we search and study the records of divine revelation we call the Bible. Isaiah prophesied,
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
will accomplish this.[2]
That last line has always struck a chord within me. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. When the zeal of the Lord Almighty is behind something, nothing can stop Him! And you know what is comforting and encouraging and empowering? The zeal of the Lord Almighty is behind you.
If you have chosen to trust Him; turned away from your sin; confessed your need for Him and that Jesus is God; and surrendered your life to Him as Savior and Lord, then you are a born again child of God. Your spirit has come alive and been fused, sealed with the Holy Spirit. No weapon formed against you shall prosper. God is for you, and since God is for you, who can be against you? Continue in the faith, endure to the end and you will see the fulness of your redemption. You will see the total victory that is coming to those who follow Jesus.
“God, Your Name is great and greatly to be praised. There is no one above You or beside You. You are unequaled in power and intelligence and love and glorious splendor! I worship You and love You. Thank You for providing and fighting for me and my family. In the Name of Jesus Christ I pray and believe these things, Amen.”
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
