Reading From Job 38-39
“Have the gates of death been revealed to you,
or have you seen the gates of deep darkness?
Have you comprehended the expanse of the earth?
Declare, if you know all this.
“Where is the way to the dwelling of light,
and where is the place of darkness,
that you may take it to its territory
and that you may discern the paths to its home?”
—Job 38:17-20
I believe in the God-given human potential to expand our minds with knowledge and wisdom. But if we are to be spiritually healthy and balanced, we must be reminded of our place in the universe and have proper perspective. Yahweh is God and we are not. He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things, not me. This should humble us before our Maker, the Maker of Heaven and Earth.
It is extraordinarily presumptuous for mankind to think that they can come to God on their own terms and get to Heaven by following their own path. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob made the Plan of Salvation through Jesus Christ. He is the One who is creating our eternal abode and therefore we must heed His Word on how to get there.
As we follow Him, we are remade in His image, becoming more and more like Jesus as we surrender different areas of our lives to His control. This surrender allows the Holy Spirit to work in us and through us in miraculous ways. If we are ever to reach our forever home, then the sons and daughters of the Most High God must learn to obey Him out of love.
“Heavenly Father, thank You for Your goodness and mercy to us. We are humbled and grateful for Your lovingkindness. The revelation of the fullness of the everlasting Gospel is so marvelous that it will take eternity to unpack. We rejoice to know that You love us enough to show us the pathway home. In the Name of the Lord Jesus I pray. Amen.”
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
—Psalm 121
