Reading From Hebrews 11:20-40
“And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets— who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. Women received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life.”
—Hebrews 11:32-35
What a mighty God we serve! There is no challenge that we face in this world that our God cannot handle. “We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus.”(1) So great are the tribulations faced by the people of God that at times we become discouraged, even despondent. It is in those seasons of bleak hardship that we need to be reminded of the promises made by the Living God. He is able, more than able, to make us strong no matter how weak we are or how weak we feel. All we need to do is ask the Holy Spirit to bless us with a renewed awareness of our identity in Christ. He lives within us and can readily bless us with the strength and power we need to keep going and finish strong. Do not give up! Fight the good fight of faith.
“Mighty God, we worship Your great Name. Be exalted in all the Earth, enthroned upon the praises of Your people. I pray for those among my brothers and sisters who are downtrodden. Gird them up with strength, Lord. Remind them of the victory that is theirs in You. Fill us once again to overflowing with the power and might of Your Spirit, O Lion of the Tribe of Judah! In the victorious Name of Jesus I pray these things. Amen.”
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
