Reading From Hebrews 8

“Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

Thus it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.”

—Hebrews 8:22-28

God’s love is perfect, but His justice is also perfect.  The reason that the shedding of blood is needed for the forgiveness of humanity is that “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”[1]  In the Garden of Gethsemane, the pressure of the sins of the world being laid upon Jesus was so great that He sweated drops of blood.  He was tortured by the Roman guards and by His stripes we are healed.  Finally, He paid the ultimate price once and for all as the Lamb of God upon the Cross of Calvary.

Death could not hold Him.  The grave could not keep Jesus down!  He conquered sin on the cross and conquered death by rising again from the tomb.  He lives today, making intercession before the Father in Heaven on the behalf of all those who choose to believe, repent, confess and receive Him as Savior and Lord.  One day soon He will return in clouds of glory to rescue all of God’s children.  Those who have died will be reunited with their bodies and be glorified and those who are living at the time of the Second Coming will be caught up and glorified with them.

It is vital that we choose Jesus in this life, because “it is appointed for man to die once and then the judgement.”  We are not told of any second chances after death to make a decision for Christ.  Salvation is by grace through faith and faith is trusting in that which is not seen.  After death we will see Him for who He is and faith will not be the same as it is now.  The knowledge of the Gospel is available now and those of us who have Him in our hearts need to share His love and message with others.

The Holy Spirit has been poured out upon all flesh.  He is drawing all men to Himself with pleadings of kindness and conviction, but it is up to each individual to choose whether to listen, trust and obey or to continue in sin and unbelief.  All those who make the right decision have the Spirit of the Lord living within them and this same Spirit connects all of us blood washed believers in the eternal family of God.  Right now we are all connected spiritually to one another and to God, but at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, we will be made one and see everyone face to face.  Nothing will separate us and we will enjoy life together in the paradise of the New Heaven and the New Earth forevermore.

“Lord Jesus, we cannot thank You enough for the sacrifice You made for us to have life abundant and eternal.  I pray that the Good News of Your salvation will spread all over the globe as Your children obey the Great Commandment and fulfill the Great Commission.  Bring us all together as Your eternal family.  May our unity increase as we become more like You, transformed from glory to glory, and conformed into Your perfect image.  Fill us with faith, hope and love in the Name of Jesus Christ.  Amen.”

At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.
