Reading From Titus 1

“Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness, in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior;

To Titus, my true child in a common faith:

Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.”

—Titus 1:1-4

     Paul was laser focused on doing whatever he could to build up the Kingdom of God and increase the knowledge of the Lord’s people.  We have been given the same Great Commandment and Great Commission as was given to the original followers of Jesus and carried on by the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers of the New Testament.  We are a continuation of that work.  We are the Body of Christ, the hands and feet of Jesus upon the Earth in the modern age.  He is still speaking to, guiding, empowering and working through His sons and daughters today.

     The hope of eternal life is manifested in His Word through preaching.  Sharing His Word and living it out in our daily lives is the way to communicate this blessed hope.  It is the goal of our faith to be united with Christ and live in perfect harmony with Him in the New Heaven and the New Earth, glorifying the Father and enjoying His Presence forever.

     Titus was mentored by Paul in a father-son spiritual relationship.  It is healthy to find a good mentor in the faith.  Those who are new in the faith should be guided by more seasoned believers who can help, teach and encourage them.  The ones who have served the Lord for a longer time and have matured in the faith should step up and be intentional in raising up the younger spiritual generation.  In this way, we can all grow together in unity and love for one another and for the Savior.

“Lord Jesus, thank You for conquering sin and death in the garden, the cross and the empty tomb.  You have brought the offer of eternal life to all those who would believe, repent, confess and receive You as Savior and Lord.  Empower us by Your Spirit to share Your love and message with others and raise others up in the most holy faith.  Let it be so in Your Name, wonderful Jesus.”

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

—II Peter 3:18
