Reading From II Timothy 3

“But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.”

—II Timothy 3:1-5

Hard times only exist because there is sin in the world.  This passage speaks of times of difficulty in the last days and then explains the cause of the rough seasons.  The sinful choices of men and women are what is behind the chaos, heartache, stress, anxiety and every undesirable condition experienced today.  We reap what we sow.  What is needed is not only repentance, but a positive direction.  As we turn away from sin, we need to turn toward the Savior and follow His example of sowing seeds of kindness and holiness.  Then, instead of reaping trouble, we will reap a harvest of righteousness.

“Heavenly Father, we know that the times and seasons are within Your command.  You have set the spiritual law of sowing and reaping into effect upon the Earth.  Help Your children to make wise choices informed by Your Holy Bible.  Forgive us of our sins and shortcomings.  Wash us clean in Your blood.  Fill us up to overflowing with Your Spirit once again.  Give us the strength, power, and love we need to sow good seed in the world around us.  In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray these things.  Amen.”

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

—Galatians 6:7-10

Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

—James 3:18
