Our Family Table: Earthly and Heavenly Riches

Encouragement for the Family of God by Kenton Cheek

Reading From I Timothy 6

“As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.”—I Timothy 6:17-19

Our Heavenly Father not only provides us with what we need for our physical lives such as food, clothing, and shelter, but also abundant blessings for us to enjoy. He has also given us every spiritual blessing in the Heavenly realms and as we share everything He has given us, temporal and spiritual blessings, we are storing up treasures in the New Eden.

The choices we make in this life affect the life to come. The degree to which we choose to surrender to the will and ways of the Lord will influence what life will be like for us in the New Heaven and the New Earth. Everything will be wonderful in the Presence of the Lord for all the children of God, but how much we yield to the work of the Spirit in us and through us will determine our roles and responsibilities as we reign with Christ for eternity. Our good works lay the foundation for life in eternity.

“O Lord God, make Your sons and daughters more aware of Your Presence in our lives. Show us how You want to us to share the blessings You’ve entrusted to us with others in order that they might have their spiritual and temporal needs met. Give us Your knowledge and wisdom on these matters. Bless us with Your eternal perspective and help us to order our priorities rightly for the Day is swiftly approaching. In the strong and mighty Name that is above every name, even Jesus Christ I pray these things. Amen.”

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us[b] for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known[c] to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ[d]10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Christ, things in heaven and things on earth in him.Ephesians 1:3-10
