Reading From I Timothy 3
“I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these things to you so that, if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth. Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness:
Hewas manifested in the flesh,
vindicatedby the Spirit,
seen by angels,
proclaimed among the nations,
believed on in the world,
taken up in glory.”
—I Timothy 3:14-16
The Church is made up of every single born again believer in Jesus who has ever lived. At the resurrection we will be gathered together from all time and space to be united in perfect harmony with God at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. The universal Church is also called the Church of the Living God, the Body of Christ, the Household of Faith, the Household of God, the Bride of Christ and the Eternal Family of God. At the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, the Church will become one with Christ with no sin to inhibit that unity and we will be one with Him for all eternity as His family.
In his first letter to Timothy, Paul describes the Church as a pillar and buttress of truth. A pillar and a buttress provide support and strength for a structure. We know from Jesus that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life and that no one comes to the Father except through Him. He is also the Word of God, the promises of God come true in bodily form.
People come to faith in Christ through the witness of the Church and we are able to know the truth through the Word of God, the Bible. His Word dwells within and among us as the Holy Spirit illuminates its precepts and principles and shows the Church how to put the Scriptures into practice. It is vital to our witness to know the Scriptures so that we can effectively share the love and message of Jesus with others.
“Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Christ and His Word to us. Reveal Your Truth to Your children. Take us deeper into the meanings of Your precepts and principles. Guide us into all truth by the power, wisdom, and insight of Your Spirit. Empower us to put Your Word into practice. May we be about Your business upon the Earth. In the Name of Jesus Christ I pray these things. Amen.”
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
—Colossians 3:16
I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
—Psalm 119:11
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
—John 1:14
