Our Family Table: Sons and Daughters of the King

Encouragement for the Family of God by Kenton Cheek

Reading From Galatians 4

 “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”

—Galatians 4:4-7

     What incredible depth there is to this truth.  Our adoption as sons and daughters into the eternal family of God is made possible by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.  He paid our penalty for us creating a bridge to the Father over the abyss caused by sin.  Our acceptance by grace through faith of this eternal gift begins a process of restoration wherein God conforms us into the image of Jesus.

As we become more like Him, our unity with the Father grows stronger and more pure until one day, at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, we will be perfectly unity in total harmony with God and with one another.  Our destiny is the New Eden and the way we will live there, free from sin and all its corrosive effects, was the way God intended from the beginning.  We are His family, never to be parted, never again to feel alone. We are empowered by the Holy Spirit to function in His authority to bring Heaven to Earth.

     Every son and daughter of God has His Spirit dwelling within them.  The way the Father feels about His Son is the way He feels about you.  If you are in Christ, then you are a child of God.  Your identity, sense of belonging, and eternal destiny is found in Him.  The world might make you feel worthless, insignificant, or unloved but I assure you that in Jesus you are worthy, valued and loved beyond measure.  Let God be true and every man a liar.  Listen to the Lord.  He is Word is trustworthy, tried and true.

“God, I thank You for who I am in You.  I am grateful for the calling You’ve placed on my life.  In You I find purpose and community and destiny.  In You I have a family and a home forever.  In You I lack no good thing.  I praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  I pray that I would glorify You with my thoughts, words and actions.  Help me to honor You. May I live a life worthy of the calling I’ve received.  In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.”

I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
    he delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant;
    their faces are never covered with shame.
This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
    he saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
    and he delivers them.

Taste and see that the Lord is good;
    blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

—Psalm 34:4-8
