Our Family Table: Make the Effort to Get Along

Daily Encouragement for the Family of God by Kenton Cheek

Reading From I Corinthians 12

“But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.  If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.”—I Corinthians 12:24b-26

The Church is the Body of Christ upon the Earth today. Jesus is alive and well and dwells within our hearts by the power and presence of the Spirit. While we do seek His direction in choosing which congregation to live the Gospel with, each church family is made up of very different people coming together with the commonality of Christ and His Word. God brings us into each other’s lives and once they’re in, it’s up to each one of us to, with Heavenly Father’s help and guidance, live at peace.

We are to be concerned about the spiritual and temporal wellbeing of our brothers and sisters in the body of Christ. Love, the fruit of the Spirit from which all the other fruits flow from, is to be what governs how we treat one another. We need to speak the truth in love, offer loads of genuine encouragement, mourn with those who mourn and rejoice with those who rejoice. Be truly happy for others. I believe we all need to be more intentional about how we interact with those who are part of the eternal family of God. Our love for each other is the best witness of Jesus.

“Our Lord Christ, may we treat others, where inside Your family or without, with the grace, mercy and love You’ve extended to us. Amen.”

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.—Romans 12:18
