Reading From I Corinthians 10:19-33
“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.
Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience, for, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”—I Corinthians 10:23-26
We learn the difference between right and wrong, righteousness and sin, obedience and disobedience from the Word of God the Bible. We also have the Holy Spirit living inside of us and the Spirit provides guidance in our daily lives. The principles found in the Scriptures give us parameters in which to function in life, but the countless decisions necessitate us relying on the Spirit to help us apply those principles. Knowledge consists of facts, wisdom tells us what to do with those facts.
Our decisions we make have an effect on others and the effects are more than we realize. It’s no use pretending that they don’t. Therefore, we need to have more consideration for how our choices impact those we know and those who we aren’t even aware will be affected. Be sensitive to the varying levels of spiritual maturity in those around you and think of others when making choices. When you’re about to say or do something, ask yourself, “is it true? Is it helpful? Is it inspiring? Is it necessary? Is it kind?”
“God, help me make wise decisions that glorify You and benefit others. Amen.”
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.—Philippians 2:3-4
