Our Family Table: The Power and Simplicity of the Gospel

Reading From I Corinthians 2

“And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”—I Corinthians 2:1-2

When we unnecessarily complicate the Good News of Jesus to the point where it’s too difficult for us to even share with others, we’ve lost sight of what the Gospel truly is. Paul kept it simple for those he ministered to. Christ and Him crucified. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus and we receive Him through belief, repentance and confession of Him as Savior and Lord. It’s so simple that a child can understand and experience Him.

That being said, I understand that as we get to know Christ and His Word more, we discover the brilliant complexities and layers of richness to our faith. Growing in knowledge is healthy, but we should never lose sight of the power and simplicity of coming to Jesus. Unless we become like a little child, we cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

“Lord, thank You for not making access to You complicated thing. Help us to put the hope that we have in You into words that others will understand and want to know more. May we come to You in humility and find rest for our souls. Amen.”

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly[a] with your God.

Micah 6:8
