Reading From Romans 16
“Now to him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all the Gentiles might come to the obedience that comes from faith— to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.”
—Romans 16:25-27
Our prayer should be the same today for ourselves and all our brothers and sisters: that we be firmly rooted and established in the faith. Part of how we know that the Bible is the written record of divine revelation from God is that the content of the individual books are consistent with one another. He is not a man that He should lie, change His mind or contradict Himself. He is perfect and every Word from Him is flawless and trustworthy.
The Pauline epistles are consistent with all the Scripture that came before them. Jesus gives further light and knowledge to His people gradually as they are ready to receive it. Peter says of Paul’s letters in II Peter 3:15-18, “Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawlessand fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.” Paul tells us in this last chapter of Romans that the writings of the New Testament, which clarify what the Gospel narratives mean for believers, are prophetic and come directly from God. His Word is right and true and is sealed immovable in the Heavens. He will never fail or be unfaithful in any way.
“Lord Jesus, thank You for the power, peace and security that comes with trusting Your Word. The Bible is Your Word, it is true and I believe You.”
For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little—Isaiah 28:10
