Our Family Table: The Perfectly Just Judge

Daily Encouragement for the Family of God by Kenton Cheek

Reading From Romans 2

“All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the lawwill be judged by the law.  For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.  (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law.  They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.)  This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.”—Romans 2:12-16

Every human being is held accountable for the light they had available to them and what they did with it. When I think of the bountiful spiritual blessings that come with knowing Jesus and His Good News of salvation by grace through faith, I want to share that joy with others. But I know that there are people around the world who will live their whole lives without hearing the Name of Jesus, let alone His Word the Bible.

It is then, after all I have done to share His love and message, that I take comfort in knowing that God is the perfect, righteous, holy and just Judge. There are those who have never heard the Gospel, but who try to do what is right according to the conscience He created them with. Every human’s reflection of God’s image has been corrupted by sin, but there is some semblance of an innate sense of right and wrong and there are those who strive to do the best they can with what limited knowledge they have.

He will judge everyone without partiality and He will see that perfect justice is carried out. They are not responsible for the revelation they do not have access to, and I am responsible for the light and knowledge I do have. Therefore, I will do all that I can to do the Lord’s work upon the Earth and trust Him to do what is fair and best.

“God, thank You that You are God and I am not. You know the innermost thoughts and intentions of every heart. You are gracious, merciful, loving and just. I pray that Your sons and daughters will have the courage we need to do Your will and Your work; that we would take Your Gospel to as many people as possible. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.”

14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
    love and faithfulness go before you.
