Our Family Table: Brighten the Corner Where You Are

Daily Encouragement for the Family of God by Kenton Cheek

Reading From Acts 28

“For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance!”—Acts 28:30-31

Paul under house arrest in Rome is a wonderful example of growing and bearing fruit wherever you’re planted; brightening whatever corner you find yourself in. Even if you’re unsure that where you are at right this very moment is where God will have you long term, we are to be about our Fathers business, sharing His love and message wherever we find ourselves.

Jesus is coming soon! We do not know the day nor the hour, but every day is one day closer. We ought to live with a sense of purpose and urgency. At the same time, Jesus told us in Luke 19 to “occupy until I come.” In that parable, the nobleman asked his servants to engage in business and invest while he’s away.

As sons and daughters of God, we are to be His hands and feet upon the earth. Waiting upon the Lord is not meant to be sedentary, but active. As we yield to the workings of the Spirit through us as Jesus is physically away from us, He will expand His Kingdom. Be productive and resourceful. Occupy until He returns.

“Lord, motivate us with Your love and power to keep moving forward. May we put our hands to the plow and not turn back. Bless us with strength for the labor and thank You for the sabbath rest we have to look forward to in the New Heaven and the New Earth. Let us invest in Your work by giving generously and freely and joyfully of our time, energy and resources to see Your Kingdom built in us, through us and around us. Advance Your cause of love in Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patientwith you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.II Peter 3:9

He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

Luke 19:12-13

And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Luke 9:62
