Reading From Acts 25
Festus said: “King Agrippa, and all who are present with us, you see this man! The whole Jewish community has petitioned me about him in Jerusalem and here in Caesarea, shouting that he ought not to live any longer. 25 I found he had done nothing deserving of death, but because he made his appeal to the Emperor I decided to send him to Rome. 26 But I have nothing definite to write to His Majesty about him. Therefore I have brought him before all of you, and especially before you, King Agrippa, so that as a result of this investigation I may have something to write. 27 For I think it is unreasonable to send a prisoner on to Rome without specifying the charges against him.”
—Acts 25:24-27
I thank God that one day every human being will stand before Him and be judged and He will mete out perfect justice. Until that day, we are to use the knowledge, intelligence and wisdom God has give us to do the best we can to judge fairly and make sound, moral decisions. What is extraordinary about Paul’s case is that he was arrested and brought before Felix, Festus and Agrippa and the officials still do not have a case that they would not be embarrassed before the emperor. How out of order these proceedings were that they would arrest a man and detain him without having any real charges of substance.
“Lord Jesus, there is so much injustice in the world. Help us by the power of Your Spirit to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly before You. Amen.”
For I, the Lord, love justice;
I hate robbery and wrongdoing.
In my faithfulness I will reward my people
and make an everlasting covenant with them.
—Isaiah 61:8
