Reading From Acts 10:1-23
“Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”
The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”—Acts 10:14-15
By this time the Law had been fulfilled in Jesus Christ. He had paid the price for the sins of the whole world and this vision Peter had showed that the dietary restrictions were no longer necessary. The Apostle Paul would later teach that circumcision was not required for salvation. The Law showed people how much they needed Christ because of their inability to perfectly meet God’s glorious standard. The Law is also filled with powerful symbols pointing to the life and atonement of Jesus. Redemption is not found in dietary codes, festivals and sabbaths or circumcision, but rather by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and His atonement.
“Lord, thank You for fulfilling the Law and the Prophets. You are the embodiment of holiness and perfection. Help me serve You more each day as I express my love for You in obedience and compassion for others. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.”
For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.—Romans 14:17
