Our Family Table: The Body of Christ

Daily Encouragement for the Family of God by Kenton Cheek

Reading From Acts 9:1-21

“As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.

“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”—Acts 9:3-6

The Lord Jesus had already ascended into Heaven at this point so it may seem puzzling that He responded to Saul in the way that He did. Saul was persecuting our early brothers and sisters throughout the Holy Land, but the voice from the light told him that he was persecuting Jesus Himself.

From the moment an individual accepts Jesus as Savior and Lord, they become part of the eternal family of God, also known as the Body of Christ upon the Earth. We are called to be united in love, one in purpose, and to be the hands and feet of Jesus bringing the Way, the Truth and the Life to others. One day our process of growing together and becoming more united with Jesus will be complete and we will live in perfect harmony with God and one another for all eternity.

“Lord, You see the hurts, stresses, fears and challenges facing Your children. Bring redemption, power, healing and hope to mankind. Bring Your Body together in unity and fill us to overflowing with Your love and strength we need to move forward, doing Your work and Your will in our daily lives. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.”

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’Matthew 25:40
