Reading From Acts 8:26-40
“And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.”—Acts 8:29-31
We serve a God who blesses us with direction in our everyday lives. If we ask Him to soften our hearts, open our spiritual eyes and ears, and be sensitive to His guidance, we will hear from Him and know which way to go and what to do. Philip was listening and heard the Spirit tell him to join the Ethiopian in his chariot.
The conversation between the two men is one that says so much about how we can share the blessings that the Lord has given us. In order to share the Word of God with others, we must have it hidden in our hearts and minds in the first place. We do this by reading, studying, meditating upon it, memorizing, and applying it in our lives. Then when we need knowledge and wisdom from God, we can draw on that wealth within us.
The lost and confused people around us need guidance. Even if they are not cognizant of their need, it is still there and can only be filled with Jesus. Every member of the Body of Christ is a minister. A minister equips others to do the work of the minister. Therefore, it is not simply up to the clergy to share the love and message of Jesus.
The Great Commandment to love and the Great Commission to make disciples is given to every follower of Jesus. Let us endeavor in the strength and power of the Spirit to know Christ and His Word in such a way that we are able to lead others to Him and raise them up in our most holy faith.
“Heavenly Father, I pray that You would anoint each one of Your sins and daughters to do Your will and work upon the Earth. May we not be ashamed of Your Good News for it is Your power for the salvation of those who would believe. Help us to follow through with our spiritual training so that we can minister effectively to others. In the Name of Jesus I pray, Amen.”
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
—II Timothy 2:15
