Reading From Acts 7:22-43
“This is the Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your own people.’ He was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors; and he received living words to pass on to us.”—Acts 7:37-38
This is one of the hundreds of messianic prophecies fulfilled in Jesus Christ. He is the One foretold by Moses who in pre-incarnate form was with the children of Israel through their desert wanderings and present on Mount Sinai with Moses for the giving of the Law. Jesus is the Great I AM, which He confirmed in John 18:5. The power of that confirmation caused the contingent who had come to arrest Him to be knocked to the ground in His Presence.
The description of the words Jesus shared with us is amazing. They are “living words” which He received from the Father to reveal to us. His Word is alive and active within our hearts, minds and lives. His words have the power to change people and situations when used in accordance with His will because He is faithful to do everything He said He would do. If we dare to trust Him and take Him at His Word, He will change our lives for the better.
“Jesus, You are God and therefore You are the greatest Prophet who ever lived, greater even than Moses. By Your power, Moses became a prolific leader, but as the Lamb of God and the Lion of Judah, You have and will accomplish what no one else is able to, the redemption of mankind, the restoration of the heavens and the earth, and the consummation of all things. I give You all the praise and the glory for You alone are worthy of it. In the matchless Name of Jesus Christ I pray these things. Amen.”
Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house. For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.”—Hebrews 3:1-6
