Reading From Acts 5:22-42

“Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”—Gamaliel, Acts 5:38-39

Gamaliel, who was a teacher of the law, recounted for the Sanhedrin how other disturbances among the people had come to nothing. These rebellions were of human origin and came to nothing. But he unknowingly prophesied that this new sect would not only survive but thrive with God’s blessing.

Since the days of the apostles, there has been an unbroken chain of believers who have kept the faith and remained true to the Lord Jesus. All those who call upon His Name today for salvation are heirs of this wonderful heritage recorded on the pages of Scripture. It is still true of us today, that if we build our lives upon the Rock of Christ and His Word, we will not be shaken. If our hearts and endeavors are in alignment with His principles, we will succeed and prosper.

“Lord, thank You for Your mighty power which is at work within us. We do not need to fear men, but rather serve You in holy fear and confidence in Your love and goodness. Strengthen the resolve of Your people. Help us to cling to You in the high and stormy gale. Protect, preserve and prosper us according to Your Will, O Lord our Rock and our Redeemer. In the strong and mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray these things. Amen.”

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?Romans 8:31-32
