Reading From Acts 2:22-47
“Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.”—Acts 2:38-41
There is a pattern, a method if you will, to the way the Lord works in the lives of those who by the new birth experience are adopted into the eternal family of God. The Holy Spirit is tugging at our hearts, pleading and drawing us with His kindness to repentance. It is up to us to listen and respond in faith with an honest and sincere confession of Jesus as Savior and Lord.
Water baptism is an outward sign of the inward work of grace accomplished by the Spirit in the inmost being of a person. “Those who accepted the message were baptized.” At the moment of new birth, the Spirit dwells within us and is ready and willing to overflow us with power and passion for the Lord’s work if we will but ask Him to. It is up to us to earnestly seek Him and then yield to His flow through us and into the lives of those around us as we bear His fruit and operate in His gifts to us.
“Lord, I desire more love, more power, more of You in my life. Amen.”
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.—Matthew 7:7-8
