Reading From John 9:1-23
“As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”—John 9:1-5
Jesus minister to others “as He went along.” We are to do the works of our Heavenly Father as we go along as well through our daily lives. It is good to ask the Lord to open our eyes to the opportunities the Spirit prepares for us to share the compassion and Good News of Jesus with those around us.
An interesting question is asked by His followers and it has to do with the causation of illness, disease and disabilities. They want Jesus to tell them who sinned in order to cause the man’s blindness. The fact is that while some illnesses are direct results from lifestyle choices, there are many that happen simply because sin is in the world. If there was no sin, there would be no sicknesses, disabilities or death.
Regardless of what the cause of infirmities are, God desires that our responses result in His glory being displayed. We have so many choices to make. One of them is to choose to be better rather than bitter. This means we respond to negative circumstances with faith in the Lord’s ability to either heal and deliver us or His ability to strengthen us and guide us through a season of hardship, and/or all the above.
Wherever we go we are to do the Lord’s work and seek Him while He may be found. With each passing day, our time is growing short. Human lives on earth are blips when compared with the full scope of eternity and as we make our journey we grow closer to the glorious Day when Christ will return and wrap up this dispensation. Make the most of every day, because when night falls there won’t be any more opportunities. It is appointed for man to die once and then the judgment.
“Lord, empower us to bring Your spiritual and physical healing and wellness to those around us, those who are not like us, those in our nation and those around the world as obey Your Great Commandment and fulfill Your Great Commission. May we do the works of Him who sent You. In the Name of Jesus we have the victory, Amen.”
Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. 9 When all the people saw him walking and praising God,10 they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.—Acts 3:6-10
