Reading From John 1:29-51

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”—John 1:29-30

John the Baptist said that Jesus was before Him which is odd because John was older than his cousin and had started his ministry first. He said this because he recognized his cousin as having existed since before the foundation of the world, from everlasting to everlasting, in fact. John knew that Jesus is the Great I AM. If we are to experience His salvation, we must choose to believe in Him, turn away from our sins, and make the same recognition and confession as John.

“Lord Jesus, thank You for taking all of my sins upon Yourself and bearing the penalty for my transgressions as the Lamb of God. Only You were able to do that for the whole world. We are eternally grateful that You did and we rejoice in our relationship with You and one another as members of the family of God by grace through faith in Your precious blood. In Your Name I pray these things. Amen.”

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.—Isaiah 53:7
