Reading From Luke 24:36-53
“While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”—Luke 24:36-39
Jesus was the Son of Man and the Son of God; fully God and fully man. He revealed to us that God is Spirit in John 4:24 and in I Corinthians 15:45, “So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.” God the Son was born of the Virgin Mary so that He could sympathize with our weaknesses, be our perfect example of life and godliness, and take our sins upon Himself to pay the penalty we deserved in our place.
After He died, was buried and resurrected, He appeared to over five hundred people before ascending into Heaven. His resurrected body was like the body He had during His earthly ministry with flesh and bones, but He could walk through walls and travel effortlessly from place to place, disappearing and reappearing elsewhere. By this He showed us that by grace through faith in Him, our own resurrections will happen and our spirits and bodies reunited and glorified with Him.
“Lord, please continue to build my faith. Help me to trust You more each day. Amen.”
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.—Romans 8:28-30
