Daily Encouragement for the Family of God by Kenton Cheek
Reading From Luke 19:28-48
“When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:
“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
—Luke 19:37-38
Sometimes we get the impression that there were only twelve disciples. As we read through the Gospels verse by verse, we see that this was not the case. Jesus had a crowd of disciples and the twelve were part of His inner circle which also included many women. At times there were thousands who came to hear the Lord teach, but we are told in Acts 1:15 that after the ascension and before the day of Pentecost there were one hundred twenty believers. After Peter’s sermon on Pentecost, over three thousand were added and the church grew from there. It is healthy to have our perceptions challenged by the Holy Spirit as we actually read the Bible word for word.
“Lord Jesus, every time I read Your Scriptures I see something new and different. Thank You for the many beautiful facets of truth that shine forth from these pages. Empower me to put Your Words into practice in my daily life. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.”
Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
—Philippians 4:9
