Our Family Table: Nothing Is Impossible With God

Reading From Luke 9:1-17

“He replied, “You give them something to eat.”

They answered, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish—unless we go and buy food for all this crowd.” (About five thousand men were there.)

But he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” The disciples did so, and everyone sat down. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.”

—Luke 9:13-17

The catering bill for over five thousand people would be astounding at any time in human history, but for Jesus this was not a problem.  He spoke the heavens and the earth into existence in all their complexity and so providing lunch for this multitude seems simple in comparison.  I think that many times I see my problems as insurmountable and I wonder how God will solve them.  I shouldn’t wonder because any challenge that I might face is easily overcome by the Creator and the Sustainer of the universe.  He loves me and wants to take care of me, so I don’t need to worry.

“Lord, thank You for Your great power and provision in my life.  I am grateful for the miracles recorded in the Scriptures because they show me how marvelously You care for Your people.  I am happy to be included as one of Your own.  Thank You for welcoming me into Your eternal family and calling me Your son.  I love You Jesus.  Amen.”

Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.

—Jeremiah 32:17

For nothing will be impossible with God.

—Luke 1:37
