Reading From March 14:27-53

“And Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.” Peter said to him, “Even though they all fall away, I will not.” And Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” But he said emphatically, “If I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And they all said the same.”

—Mark 14:27-53

This sad prophecy from Jesus unfortunately came true.  Who can blame the disciples?  This was a terrifying and heart-rendering time for them.  Fortunately for them and for us, we do not have a Great High Priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses.  He understands us and the difficulties we face.  I am so grateful for His goodness and mercy to us.  In this dark time, He gave hope to them when He promised that after He will be raised from the dead, He will go ahead of them to Galilee.

Not only will He be with them and with us, but He promises the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to make us strong and give us courage if we ask in faith.  If we truly believe, we will receive.  With the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2, these terrified disciples became bold proclaimers of truth in spite of great opposition.  What miracles God did in their lives and He will do the same for us if we trust Him.

“Lord Jesus, thank You that no matter how dark our circumstances may seem, You are able to guide us through with Your light.  Even when we are afraid, You are able to empower us and give us peace from Your Presence.  Thank You for who You are and all You do for us, Lord.  In Your Name I pray, Amen.”

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

—Acts 1:8
