Reading From Matthew 24:1-28
“Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”
–Matthew 24:1-2
Jesus predicted the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem thirty seven years before it happened. In AD 70, the Roman Emperor Titus laid siege to the city in response to the Jewish rebellion and when the battle was over, all of Jerusalem had been decimated with tens of thousands dead. Yet even in the midst of that tragic fulfillment, God did not leave us without hope.
By grace through faith in Jesus Christ, we can as individuals become temples of the Holy Spirit. Because He dwells within every born again believer, we are all connected to one another as the eternal family of God. As we become more and more like Jesus, we are being brought together to form a mighty, massive Temple in which He dwells by His Spirit.
“Lord, You have proven Your Word to be true with the fulfillment of hundreds of prophecies. We thank You that Your are not only the greatest Prophet who has ever lived, but that You alone are God. We love You, Lord Jesus. Amen.”
Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.
–I Corinthians 3:16-17
