Reading From Matthew 17
“After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.”
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” —Matthew 17:1-3, 5
Jesus is God and in this wondrous mountain top experience, a few of those closest to Him had the extraordinary opportunity to see Him in a light of a glimpse of His divine glory. That Moses and Elijah appeared and spoke with Him is symbolic of the fact that Jesus was and is the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets.
It also shows that saints who have gone before us into glory still retain their God given personalities in the afterlife. When we transition to Heaven, we too will still be recognizable even with our resurrected, glorified bodies in perfect harmony with God. The bright cloud reminds me of Yahweh leading the Israelites through the wilderness by cloud and pillar of fire and the Voice and His message are reminiscent of the Baptism of Jesus. God the Father marked His seal of approval on God the Son.
“Lord, help me to bring glory and honor to You. I long for the Day that I shall behold You as You truly are, shining brighter than the noon day sun and filling the heavens and the Earth with power and light and love and glory! In the Name of Jesus I pray, Amen.”
I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. —Daniel 7:13-14
