Reading From Matthew 14:1-21
“Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, for John had been saying to him: “It is not lawful for you to have her.” Herod wanted to kill John, but he was afraid of the people, because they considered John a prophet.”
–Matthew 14:3-5
John the Baptist had spoken moral truth into a politician’s personal life and it got him in big trouble. God gives His servants discretion and discernment as to what to say and when to say it. There are times when we have to stand up for what is right in the eyes of God and let the chips fall where they may. Some situations call for gentle correction and others a firm rebuke. It is up to us as prophets and prophetesses anointed by God to speak forth His Word with authority to be sensitive to His guidance in these matters.
“God, grant us the courage we need to speak the truth in love even when we know that there will be retribution. Remind us that You have our backs and You will never let us down. You have us covered no matter what, so even in those tough situations where we have to speak out and stand up for the truth, we know that You will take care of us. Thank You Lord. Amen.”
These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts; do not plot evil against each other, and do not love to swear falsely. I hate all this,” declares the Lord.
–Zechariah 8:16-17
