Reading From Matthew 8:18-34
“Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”
–Matthew 8:23-27
By commanding the wind and waves and their obedience to Him, Jesus demonstrated His power over nature. The Savior of the world is also its Creator. Jesus is God. The Apostle John wrote, “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”[1] We can trust Jesus to calm our storms of trouble in our lives and with faith in accordance with the will of God, we can believe for the Lord’s intervention in nature still today.
“Lord Jesus, thank You that You are all-powerful. No obstacle that stands in the way of Your children is too great that You cannot remove it. No problem is too great that You cannot solve it. Thank You for who You are and all that You do for Your sons and daughters. In the Name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.”
Praise the Lord.
How good it is to sing praises to our God,
how pleasant and fitting to praise him!
The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
he gathers the exiles of Israel.
He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.
He determines the number of the stars
and calls them each by name.
Great is our Lord and mighty in power;
his understanding has no limit
The Lord sustains the humble
but casts the wicked to the ground.
Sing to the Lord with grateful praise;
make music to our God on the harp.
He covers the sky with clouds;
he supplies the earth with rain
and makes grass grow on the hills.
He provides food for the cattle
and for the young ravens when they call.
His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse,
nor his delight in the legs of the warrior;
the Lord delights in those who fear him,
who put their hope in his unfailing love.
Extol the Lord, Jerusalem;
praise your God, Zion.
–Psalm 147:1-12
