Our Family Table: Only One Judge

Daily Encouragement for the Family of God

Reading From Matthew 7

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” —Matthew 7:1-2

This passage should give us pause whenever we are tempted to be overly critical toward others. We are all sinners equally in need of a Savior. The only one qualified to provide salvation is the perfect, spotless Lamb of God and only He is qualified to be the righteous Judge of all mankind. His qualifications to preside as Judge of the universe include omniscience (meaning He is all-knowing) and His omnipresence (He is present everywhere at once).

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians in his first letter to the church there, “Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!” We are not to condemn others, but gently correct them in love only as the Holy Spirit leads us to. We are to listen to His voice in judging between right and wrong. This is in preparation for our role as priests and kings, priestesses and queens in the eternal family, the New Jerusalem. We will reign and judge with Him as we function in His authority as sons and daughters of Heavenly Father.

“God, bless us with knowledge and wisdom to know the difference between right and wrong. Give us words of encouragement to speak to others as we speak the truth in love. Help us to do to others what we would have them do to us. May we grow in the wisdom and admonition of You. In the Name of the Righteous Judge who is the Prince of Peace and Giver of mercy and vengeance, even Jesus Christ. Amen.”

Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.II Timothy 4:8
