Our Family Table: In Secret

Daily Encouragement for the Family of God by Kenton Cheek

Reading From Matthew 6:1-18

“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” —Matthew 6:6

We have this idea of privacy that is really not something God is limited by. He is omnipresent, which means He is everywhere at the same time. There is no place I can go and be away from the Lord. With that in mind, quality time with Him is more feasible when we make the effort to remove distractions. Finding a quiet place to pray helps us do just that.

“Lord, we are grateful that You want to spend time with us in. There’s no place I love more than Your Presence. May I cherish the moments I spend communing with You and do it as often as I am able. Amen.”

Where can I go from your Spirit?
    Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
    if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
    if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
    your right hand will hold me fast.

—Psalm 139:7-10
