Our Family Table: God and His Angels

Daily Encouragement for the Family of God

Reading From Hebrews 1-6

“To which of the angels did God ever say,

“Sit at my right hand
    until I make your enemies
    a footstool for your feet”?

Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” —Hebrews 1:13-14

Angels are created beings made by Almighty God to serve Him. They are therefore below the Lord in the hierarchy of the universe but above humans who are spiritually dead. Sons of Adam and daughters of Eve who gave been born again become sons and daughters of the Most High God and our new life in Christ changes our status in the heavenly realms. Our salvation makes our destiny perfect unity and harmony with God as partakers of His divine nature and, as I Peter 1:12 tells us, “angels long to look into such things.”

There is no indication in Scripture that deceased humans somehow become angels. Faithful angels serve Yahweh and disobedient ones were cast out of Heaven and are now demons who do Satan’s bidding. (Jude 1:6)

Angels were created before humans (Job 38:4-7)

While angels have appeared to many humans throughout history, the infrequency of our allowance to see them is most likely to protect us from worshipping them. Our likelihood to do this is alluded to in Colossians 2:18.

It is important for us to study what God has revealed to us in Scripture regarding these things so that we are better equipped to navigate the world and fulfill our ultimate destiny in Christ.

“God, thank You for all that You have revealed. Your Holy Spirit guides us into all truth. Help us to trust You as You lead the way. Amen.”

Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people. He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”Revelation 14:6-7
