Reading From Acts 27-28
“There was an estate nearby that belonged to Publius, the chief official of the island. He welcomed us to his home and showed us generous hospitality for three days. His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and healed him. When this had happened, the rest of the sick on the island came and were cured. They honored us in many ways; and when we were ready to sail, they furnished us with the supplies we needed.”
—Acts 28:7-10
The ship carrying the Apostle Paul and other prisoners had just shipwrecked, but everyone made it onto the island of Malta alive. Some might see negative circumstances as reason to be discouraged, but it is always better to search for the good in each situation we find ourselves in. Paul could have found reasons to just give up, but he did not. He kept brightening whatever part of the world he found himself in. He kept fighting ignorance and hatred with the truth and love of Jesus.
Yes, the ship wrecked and was destroyed, but God not only saved the lives of everyone onboard, but He also healed many sick people on the island through Paul. Rather than wallow in self pity, we should ask the Lord how He wishes to be glorified in the midst of whatever circumstance we’re in. Brighten the corner where you are.
“How can we honor You today, Lord? How do You want me to minister Your love to someone today? Reveal to us the miraculous ways You can turn any situation around for Your glory and our good. In Jesus’ Name I pray, amen.”
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. —Genesis 50:20
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been calledaccording to his purpose. —Romans 8:28
