Reading From John 14-16

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home.[a] If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?[b] When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.”

“No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is.[c] From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”

–John 14:1-7

This was my Grandpa Cheek’s favorite passage of Scripture.  It shows us that the way to avoid having a troubled heart is to trust in the Father through Jesus Christ.  He alone is the Way, the Truth and the Life.  No one comes to the Father except through Jesus Christ.  Another element of our faith that calms our hearts is that we have the blessed hope of the glorious appearing of our Lord.  Not only will He return, but He will take us away to a beautiful place that He has prepared for us.  The best part of our reward is His very Presence.  Just to be with Him forever will be enough.

Another deep truth shared by God the Son with His disciples is that to know Jesus is to know the Father.  The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit constitute One God in three personages.  Three in One.  God is the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe and the Author and Perfector of our faith.  Therefore, if we desire to live in Heaven one day, we need to approach God on His terms.  We don’t get to set the terms or make the rules.  That is His job and He does everything perfectly.  Faith and trust in Jesus and His Word is the Way to Heaven.

“God, thank You for providing the Way to eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.  You are a good, good Father and we praise and glorify Your holy Name.  I pray that You would keep us on the highway of holiness that leads to Your Presence.  You have cleansed us with Your blood and filled us with Your Spirit and made us worthy to be united with You one day in perfect harmony.  Nothing we could do would make us worthy, You do that for us.  We thank You for all these blessings in Jesus’ Precious Name I pray, Amen.”

And a great road will go through that once deserted land.
It will be named the Highway of Holiness.
Evil-minded people will never travel on it.
    It will be only for those who walk in God’s ways;
    fools will never walk there.
Lions will not lurk along its course,
    nor any other ferocious beasts.
There will be no other dangers.
Only the redeemed will walk on it.
10 Those who have been ransomed by the Lord will return.
    They will enter Jerusalem[a] singing,
    crowned with everlasting joy.
Sorrow and mourning will disappear,
and they will be filled with joy and gladness.

–Isaiah 35:8-10
