Reading From Matthew 20-21

“And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.”

–Matthew 20:17-19

One of the ways that Jesus proved Himself to be the greatest Prophet to ever live was to predict His own arrest, torture, death and resurrection.  He gives such extraordinary detail which proves His prophetic ability and more importantly, His divinity.  Jesus was more than a Prophet.  Prophets speak to the people on behalf of God.  Jesus is God.  He cuts out the middle man and is now our only mediator between us and the Father.  Because He and the Father are One, we have the blessed ability to go straight to God by grace through faith.

“Lord, no one else could do the things You do.  You fulfilled hundreds of prophecies given to Your people hundreds of years before You were born in Bethlehem and thus prove You and Your Word to be true.  Thank You for the sure foundation You provide for Your sons and daughters to build their lives upon.  We love You Lord.  Amen.”

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.

 –Hebrews 1:1-4
