Reading From John 7-8

“On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” (When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.)”

 –John 7:37-39

The clear, refreshing water of the Spirit reminds me of the river that flowed in Eden where the Tree of Life was and as we look forward to the Second Coming of Jesus, then we see another river flowing along the Tree of Life in the New Eden.  This eternal spring flows continuously and will never run dry as its source is not some earthly aquifer, but the Lord God Himself who is from everlasting to everlasting and never runs out of anything.  We don’t have to dig a well and pump it out, it just comes bursting forth by grace through faith and trust in the Source, the Lord Jesus.

“Lord, I pray that we would always be receiving from You, our Source and be satisfied, refreshed and fulfilled.  Amen.”

And he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illuminate them; and they will reign forever and ever.

 –Revelation 22:1-5
