Reading From Matthew 14, Mark 6, Luke 9:1-17
“And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind,he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
–Matthew 14:28-33
When I read stories like this, I believe in my heart that they are true. I try to picture myself in Peter’s sandals. I would like to think that I would have the courage to step out of the boat. Even if I do not possess that kind of bravery in my own strength, my fervent prayer is that God would increase my faith. Peter saw the physical storm and he became fearful. The fear that he allowed to infiltrate his mind and heart caused his faith to weaken and he began to sink. May the Lord God increase the faith of all His sons and daughters.
“Lord Jesus, help us in our unbelief. I pray that You would strengthen our faith no matter what our circumstances are. It is so easy to be distracted and dragged down with worry, stress, fear and anxiety. Forgive us, Lord and help us to increase our trust in You and Your protection and provision. Thank You Lord Jesus. Amen.”
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
–Mark 9:23-24
