Reading From John 5

“John was like a burning and shining lamp, and you were excited for a while about his message. But I have a greater witness than John—my teachings and my miracles. The Father gave me these works to accomplish, and they prove that he sent me. And the Father who sent me has testified about me himself. You have never heard his voice or seen him face to face, and you do not have his message in your hearts, because you do not believe me—the one he sent to you.

“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me!Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.” —John 5:35-40

From the Words of Jesus we discover that the way to eternal life is through faith; we must believe that Jesus is God. If we affirm that He is Lord, then we accept everything He said and did. Acceptance of Jesus as Lord means an abdication of our own control and authority in exchange for His.

The Father testified about Jesus through the Law and the Prophets and Jesus proved this by fulfilling hundreds of prophecies concerning Himself. Furthermore, Jesus proved He was sent from the Father by His many miracles. No one else could accomplish the wonderful things Jesus did. His power lives in and flows through all those who put their faith and trust in Him.

“Lord Jesus, thank You for taking up residence in my life. I pray that Your will would be done in me and in the world around me as it is in Heaven. Amen.”

“I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.”
