Reading From Nehemiah 1-5
“Remember the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples, but if you return to me and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, from there I will gather them and bring them to the place that I have chosen, to make my name dwell there.’ They are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand. O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants who delight to fear your name, and give success to your servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.”
Now I was cupbearer to the king.”
–Nehemiah 1:8-11
We serve a remarkable God who loves people so much that He always provides a way out of sin. The scattering of the Israelites after their continual idolatry shows us that there are times when God allows us to experience some of the consequences of our actions in varying measures. And when we do stumble and find ourselves unfaithful, He promises restoration if we truly believe in Him enough to turn away from our sin and commit to following His ways.
Faith, confession and repentance open the door to experience the love, acceptance and forgiveness of God as we never have before. When we turn to Jesus, He has the ability to save us from our sins and honestly, to save us from ourselves. The Father connects us to Himself through the Holy Spirit dwelling within us from the moment of our new birth. One day He will call us home to be with Him and our brothers and sisters forever in the New Eden.
“God, thank You for Your love, compassion and wisdom You have for Your children. You know exactly what we need and when we need it. When we go astray, guide us back to You with the light of Your love and truth. In Jesus’ Name I ask these things, Amen.”
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
–Ephesians 4:32
