Reading From Esther 6-10
“On that day King Ahasuerus gave to Queen Esther the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews. And Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had told what he was to her. And the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.
Then Esther spoke again to the king. She fell at his feet and wept and pleaded with him to avert the evil plan of Haman the Agagite and the plot that he had devised against the Jews.”
–Esther 8:1-3
By the end of this story, Mordecai is second only to the king, who ruled over a vast empire stretching from Egypt to India. The promotion of Mordecai to what was essentially prime minister reminds me of the rise of Joseph to a similar position in Egypt hundreds of years before this. God has the ability to elevate specific people to positions of influence in order that they would do His will upon the earth. In the cases of Joseph and Mordecai, they were placed in key government roles where they were able to influence policy decisions to the glory of God.
Queen Esther and Mordecai were in their time and place and prominence for a reason. God worked through them to bring about the deliverance of His people from certain death under a cruel and unjust law. He wants each of His sons and daughters to use their time, resources, energy and money wherever and whenever they find themselves to bring glory to God and positive change for people around them in their sphere of influence.
“Lord Jesus, I pray that You would anoint us with Your Holy Spirit once again to do Your work upon the Earth. Open our spiritual eyes to opportunities to share the light of Your truth and love with others around us. May Your priorities be our priorities. Bless us with the courage we need to do what is right no matter what and stand up for those who cannot defend themselves. In the strong and mighty Name of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ, Amen.”
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
–I Corinthians 10:31
Not to us, Lord, not to us
but to your name be the glory,
because of your love and faithfulness.
–Psalm 115:1
