Reading From Ezekiel 24-27
“On account of your unclean lewdness, because I would have cleansed you and you were not cleansed from your uncleanness, you shall not be cleansed anymore till I have satisfied my fury upon you. I am the Lord. I have spoken; it shall come to pass; I will do it. I will not go back; I will not spare; I will not relent; according to your ways and your deeds you will be judged, declares the Lord God.”
–Ezekiel 24:13-14
The Spirit revealed through the Apostle Paul that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Jesus was both fully God and fully man, the only one uniquely qualified to be the perfect, ultimate sacrifice. He took the wrath of God the Father upon Himself. So great was the pressure upon Him, that He sweat drops of blood in the Garden of Gethsemane. He then was arrested, tortured until He was unrecognizable and suffered the most horrific death a human can possibly endure.
He did all of this because of His great love for every human being who has ever lived. Justice must be satisfied. Jesus did that for us. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. He alone is able to extend mercy to us because He paid our debt in full.
Not only did He take our sins in His body, conquering sin on the cross by His death, He also conquered death when He rose again from the garden tomb. He lives today, seated at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us and welcoming all who would say “Yes” to the Spirit’s invitation to join the eternal family of God. This invitation is extended to whosoever will turn away from sin and trust in Him.
“Lord Jesus, thank You doesn’t seem enough. I am so very grateful that You suffered in my place. You satisfied the fury of the wrath of God and experienced death so that I would have new life, abundant and eternal. I praise and glorify Your holy Name. In Your Name I pray, Amen.”
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
–John 3:16
