Reading From Ecclesiastes 1-6

“Whoever loves money never has enough;
    whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income.
    This too is meaningless.” –Ecclesiastes 5:10

Notice that the money itself is not the source of trouble, it is the love of it that causes problems.  We will never be content with what God has blessed us with if we are in love with money rather than Him.  How much money is enough?  There is never enough.  What is more, there will always be someone wealthier than you, stronger than you, more beautiful or handsome, more intelligent, more accomplished than you. It is vital to rest in the knowledge of who we are in Jesus. We discover this through His Word. Perhaps learning to be content in every situation while asking for God’s strength and power to excel in my endeavors can all coexist and not be a bad thing.

“God, thank You for all the blessings You’ve bestowed on my life.  Show me ways I can be a blessing and share Your blessings with others around me.  I pray that I would be content with what You’ve given me while at the same time wisely stewarding Your blessings and actively pursuing all that You have for my life.  Amen.”

I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
